Try a Megaformer Workout at SculptHouse

Catfish might be a southern delicacy. But, at SculptHouse fitness studio, the term has a completely different meaning.

Yep, during a class at the SculptHouse location in Buckhead, I was reminded of how challenging this fishy Megaformer move is. In case you’re not familiar, the Megaformer is a machine that uses springs and cables to provide you with a full-body workout. It’s Pilates — on crack. And I love it. Recently, I was invited to the Buckhead location of the fab fitness studio to try out a 50-minute CardioSculpt class (yes, it was complimentary) that incorporates both the Megaformer and the Woodway Curve treadmill, which is a self-propelled cardio challenge in and of itself.

Here are three reasons why a class at SculptHouse is a “fit” for me:

  1. The best of both workout worlds. What I loved about this particular class is that it was a balance of cardio and sculpting. (BTW, SculptHouse also offers 50-minute sculpting classes on the Megaformer.) For me, the first 25ish minutes of class were spent doing cardio intervals on the treadmill. (Half the class starts on the treadmill, and the other half starts on the Megaformer. Then, halfway through class, everyone swaps.) And if you’re not a runner, don’t worry. The way the program is set up challenges you to do interval training at a walking OR running pace. The last portion of class was spent doing sculpting exercises on the Megaformer. You are basically going through movements for the legs, arms, core for 30 seconds to a minute with some holds and pulsing in between. (Note that some CardioSculpt classes focus on upper body sculpting and others focus on lower.) By the end of class, my butt was literally kicked.

  2. Exercise expertise. My teacher that morning was Megan, who is creative director and master instructor for the brand. She’s welcoming, and her playlist is awesome. And from a fitness teacher’s perspective, I loved that she was constantly walking around and correcting our form to make sure everyone in the class was doing the exercises correctly.

  3. Sweat — and shop. And after you wrap up that killer workout, reward yourself in SculptHouse’s boutique. It’s one of the best I’ve seen at a fitness studio. You’ll find brands like Koral, DYI, and APL, and pieces ranging from the latest leggings to bags and shoes. All I can say is, bring your credit card. You’ll thank me.
